Glee Season 2 episode 21

So, Sue does have a heart. And can cry. And can do half-apologies.
Sue’s sister, Jean, died from pneumonia. She passed away in her sleep. Sue wants to be left alone, and is taking it out on her students. Sue wants Terri to stop New Directions from getting to New York for Nationals. They reroute them to Tripoli. Sue even kicks Becky off of the Cheerios. Now, Becky and her mom begs Will for her to join the choir, but Will says no.

Glee brings on Jesse St. James, as show-choir consultant. New Directions doesn’t trust him, especially Finn. Jesse makes fun of Finn’s singing and dancing say it is like “a zombie who has to poop.”Jesse wants New Directions to scrap what it was doing before and does something that will make them win. He wants people to audition to be the lead performer, from which to build a winning set list upon for Nationals.

First up is Santana, performing Back to Black by Amy Winehouse. Jesse says, it did “go deep into the emotional truth of the song.”

Next is Kurt singing “Some People,” from the musical “Gypsy.” He owns this genre and his ugly outfit. Jesse says that Kurt can't fill the heels of Ethel Merman, Patti LuPone and Bernadette Peters.

Then Mercedes tries her hand at an old Otis Redding classic, “Try a Little Tenderness.” It started off slow and then gradually blew up. But Jesse says she’s not a star and questions how many times she’s practiced that song. She lacks choreography, he says. Still, no one can question her natural talent.

But when Rachel took over the stage, she shines in “My Man” by Barbra Streisand, as performed in Rachel’s favorite movie “Funny Girl.” While she sings, she imagines Finn, her first and only love. Not Jesse, who questions whom she’s singing to. Her rendition was both heartbreaking, and a teary performance. Kurt says "Brava". Jesse says it was brilliant. Santana calls McKinley Idol competition rigged.

At the end, Will wasn’t convinced that the competition was healthy and wasn’t good for group dynamics as the club heads to Nationals. So, he tells them to go back and make original songs for New York.

Meanwhile, Finn and Kurt bought flowers and teddy bears to comfort Sue. She’s suspicious. She doesn’t know how to deal with grief. She says she’s the meanest of the sisters and she doesn’t know why she didn’t die first. She can’t go through her sister’s things or plan a funeral. So, they and the rest of Glee help her.

They dedicate a beautifully sung “Pure Imagination” from Jean’s favorite movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at the funeral. Sue cries and wasn’t able to finish her eulogy. Will takes over to recite the words she wrote:

“I remember Jean. I remember a life lived with no enemies, no regrets. … I feel like a part of me has been ripped off … I want 10 more seconds to hold her … I love you Jeannie, rest in peace.”

Following the funeral Finn breaks up with Quinn. Quinn realizes that Finn is still in love with Rachel and storms away.

Glee Season 2 episode 14

It is Alcohol Awareness week on Glee. While the school is trying to promote not drinking, the Glee club is doing a little experimenting.

Rachel wants to become a great song writer like Joni Mitchell, but her first attempt sucks. She wrote a song about her headband. Finn tells her she needs to live a little. So she has a party to try to loosen up. The whole Glee club comes including Blaine and Kurt.

At first the party is awful. Rachel’s high strung ways are too lame for her friends. Before they can leave, Rachel lets Puck break into her dad’s alcohol cabinet and the booze gets flowing. They go wild. Santana is crying, Brittany is dancing on tables and Rachel is all over sober Finn. They even play spin the bottle where Rachel and Blaine end up in a long kiss. The kiss is too long for Kurt’s comfort. Blaine and Rachel sing “Don’t You Want Me”.

Blaine wakes up in Kurt’s bed (nothing happened). The rest of the Glee kids arrive at school very hungover. Artie has the cure to their pain: Bloody Marys. He convinces them to keep drinking to avoid a hangover. They sing “Blame It On The Alcohol” for Mr. Schuester while drunk hoping it will be the song for the assembly. Will tells them the song encourages alcohol.

Will feels bad because he drank when he was their age. He’s clearly stressed over everything. To loosen up, Coach Beiste takes him out to a country bar where the teachers get very drunk. They sing “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer” together. Will goes home and grades tests drunk and drunk dials someone. He though he called Emma, but he’s very wrong.

Kurt has his own problems. After their kiss Rachel and Blaine seem to think they might have chemistry. Kurt is heartbroken and very jealous. Blaine tries to explain that he’s confused, but Kurt is angry, jealous and a little rude. Blaine was there for him and now Kurt won’t help his friend because he has a crush on him.

The Glee club’s drinking hits rock bottom at the assembly. To stop their nerves they drink a concoction including scotch, brandy, and who knows what else. They sing “Tik Tok” for the school led by Brittany. It was going great until Brittany suddenly threw up on Rachel and then Santana threw up too.

The next day, Sue gets a hold of the microphone and humiliates Will. Will called Sue when he was drunk and left a hilarious message on her machine, which Sue proceeded to play for the whole school.

The best part is the Principal doesn’t realize they were really drunk. He applauds the kids for teaching the students a lesson about drinking. Will knows better. He and the kids sign a pledge to not drink until after Nationals. He gives them his cell phone in case they ever get in trouble drinking.

Finally Kurt and Rachel have the big Blaine show down. Is Blaine gay? Rachel rushes up to Blaine at the coffee shop and plants a kiss on him to find out the truth. Blaine is gay. Rachel isn’t upset though, because now she has something to write a song about.

Glee season 2 episode 19

Finally Glee made some new episodes. I am a little behind on my blogging so I am going to skip right up to the episode that is the freshest in my mind and that would be the Rumors episode. This episode wasn't the best that they have ever made but it was still good.

Sue is still convinced that she can bring will down and is pulling out her next weapon, Will's ex wife Terri. Terri's big plan is to get April back in town so she draws Will away from the glee club with the idea of going to Broadway with her. In the end Will just isn’t willing to leave the kids and Emma.

Artie and Brittany break up after a fight about Santana. Brittany still doesn't realize that Santana isn't ready to be there for her. Brittany tries to help Santana come out with her but at the last minute Santana ditches and leaves Brittany interviewing her cat.

Finn has his own relationship problems. When he stakes out a motel with Rachel he see’s Kurt leaving with Sam, not Quinn. They also see Quinn coming out. Quinn notices there little secret bringing them together and tells Finn that as long as they are together he is not allowed to sing with Rachel. Rachel turns it around by singing “Go Your Own Way” to Finn.

After a bit of a blow up, Sam admits what’s really going on. His dad lost his job and house and his family is living in the motel. Quinn and Kurt were just helping. Sam doesn’t know what to do, but they convince him to stay in Glee because he needs the music now more than ever.

The show ends in the regular New Directions group singalong. Sam brings his little brother and sister to practice so they can sing “Don’t Stop” all together. It’s a happy end to a fairly dramatic and serious Glee episode.
